Today is International Women's Day!
As the owner and manager of The Little Red Berry Co I wanted to tell you a short story about me.
When I saw it was International Women's Day, I couldn't help but think back to the day I told some of my old work colleagues I was leaving my well paid management job to start out on my own. You know what happened?
I'm not sure why, was it because I was a women entering a business world or was it because I was only 26?
6 Years later and that day still drives me forward.
I wouldn't call myself a feminist and sometimes I even think equality is a tricky subject to get into a discussion about.
However I was brought up in a family where if you work hard for what you want, there is a good chance you can achieve it. You make your own path and often you make your own luck.
Some people tell me they wouldn't dare do what I've done, but I know lots of Women in Business and my question is, why should it even be a question?
Business is hard and for some reason being a Women in business can be even harder.
Today, if a colleague, friend or family member, female or not, tells you they have a business idea and they want to try it. Don't laugh and say why? Smile and say, why not?!
Not sure how our delicious liqueurs would go well with pancakes? Try this sumptuous boozy pancake recipe.
Basic pancake recipe
100g Plain Flour
2 large Eggs
Pinch of salt
Oil to cook
Put the flour, eggs, milk and a pinch of salt into a bowl or large jug, then whisk to a smooth batter.
Set a frying pan over a medium heat and carefully wipe it with some oiled or using a baking brush.
Pour a ladle of batter into the pan and coat the bottom of the pan, cook on each side (or give it a flip if you are feeling adventurous!) for 2 minutes or until golden.
In addition to this chop some fresh strawberries and leave to one side.
Mix 3 tablespoons of caster sugar and 2 table spoon of hot water into a small pan and simmer until it turns to a thick sugar syrup.
Add 12ml of Strawberry Vodka Liqueur and simmer for 1 minute
Add the chopped strawberries on to the cooked pancake and fold.
Drizzle over the boozy Strawberry Vodka syrup!
